the page below.

"Antwerp Legend,

MARINA YEE's Japonisme Denim and Shirts."

"ORIGAMI"

A pastime so familiar it's ingrained

in the Japanese DNA.

Martin Margiela, who had a very close relationship with Marina Yee,

created the "Tabi Boots" based on Japanese split-toe socks.

MM6, derived from Maison Margiela,

also created the "Japanese Bag" inspired by Furoshiki,

showing that Japanese culture has many surprising connections

with designers from Antwerp.

MARINA YEE chose origami from such unique Japanese culture

and expressed it using classic, authentic,

and unchanging items.

In classical and tense tailored wear,

the lapels are folded like origami in a disordered manner

and fastened with darts, creating a disruption in the neat and orderly appearance,

giving it an unsettling presence that immediately catches the eye.

Whether it's trousers with countless pleats at the waist to create an uneven silhouette,

or simple knitwear with a single dart to create a cross-shaped distortion,

the unusual presence that can be seen as art

is the result of MARINA YEE's "origami" creativity.

The items created by the Antwerp legend

add new values to authenticity.

"Deconstructive Design"

Deconstructive design work is also a striking point.

Origami is one such design work,

but among them are items with astonishing designs.

Marina Yee herself

sat on a chair wearing a trench coat,

and the astonishing garment expresses the silhouette and fabric movement

exactly as they were at that moment.

While irregular and complex movements are skillfully created with darts,

the garment still maintains the appearance of a coat,

providing a comfortable fit without any sense of discomfort.

This is due to meticulously calculated design and precise pattern work.

The garment, when displayed on a mannequin, possesses a unique presence

that is easily comparable to a museum piece.

"UPCYCLE COLLECTION"

The Upcycle Collection is also not to be missed,

featuring items created by deconstructing MARINA YEE's archives

and transforming them into different garments,

or designing new pieces based on vintage items.

This collection includes items that truly highlight MARINA YEE's creativity,

such as coats with entirely different textures on the top and bottom,

and designs where the outer fabric of a mint-condition vintage tailored jacket

is cut out to reveal the interlining.

Furthermore, this upcycle collection is handmade in her Antwerp studio,

and among them, the "UCC 1" Patchwork jacket is personally created by Marina Yee herself,

making the romantic aspect of an item made by a living legend highly appealing.

--------------------------------------------------------

Having reviewed several of MARINA YEE's design works,

the creativity of the Antwerp legend is still alive and well,

continuously producing items with new values.

MARINA YEE has had a significant impact on many contemporary designers

and Martin Margiela, creating a new lineage in the scene.

Take this opportunity to acquire a romantic piece from MARINA YEE.
