kiminori morishita

The designer is Kiminori Morishita, who also designs 08sircus, a brand handled by Amanojak.

Kiminori Morishita.

Mr. Morishita has held positions as chief designer and creative director at various brands that led the Japanese fashion scene in the 80s and 90s, gaining experience at Tokyo Collection.

Leveraging his extensive and rich experience, he launched his eponymous brand in Spring/Summer 2003,

【kiminori morishita】

start.

From its debut,

his innovative approach of elevating military and workwear into high fashion through the artisanal craftsmanship of Japan's proud artisans

garnered immense acclaim.

In 2007, it expanded into Paris Collection.

Its delicate craftsmanship and bold construction received high praise worldwide, rapidly growing into a brand with over 70 stores in 20 countries.

It rapidly grew into a brand expanding in over 70 stores across 20 countries.

However, in 2009, a sudden hiatus was announced.

In just six years since its establishment, kiminori morishita rose to prominence among fashion addicts worldwide.

"A brand that conveyed Japanese craftsmanship to the world"

It is a legendary brand that has etched its name into the fashion history of Japan and the world.

And this 2025AW, a relaunch has been announced.

To my embarrassment, before the decision to handle the brand, I only knew its name...

However, the moment I saw the actual items,

the quality of the items, and the indescribable shock of being completely captivated by their atmosphere,

I can still remember vividly.

If I were to briefly describe it, it would be:

"Clothes that embody memories,
etched by the artisan's hand"

Of course, they are new, but clothes that seem to carry the background of the wearer, as if etched with a deep history, are not just mere garments.

A piece that evokes a story

stands out with its unique presence.

It's a bit long, but that's the brand's brief history and overview, so let's move on to introducing the items 😎

The 25AW season is broadly composed of

three series

so I will explain them in order.

First, let's look at what could be called the brand's signature,

Garment dyed series

The greatest strength of this series is its

coloring.

Mr. Morishita himself describes this coloring as

rotten khaki

Through repeated product dyeing and washing by artisans, this coloring creates a unique color like humus, imparting a sense of depth, which is neither the typical khaki used in military items, nor brown, nor beige.

It is neither the khaki used for ordinary military items,

nor brown, nor beige.

It creates a unique color like humus, giving a sense of depth.

Furthermore, as a byproduct of the process to achieve this color, it produces a unique fabric with a soft, worn-in texture, devoid of stiffness.

This is released in outerwear and pants with a strong military nuance.

Military and khaki.

It can become too intense, or, if not handled well, make you look like a soldier.

Such worries are unfounded with kiminori morishita.

Thanks to Mr. Morishita, who started his apparel career as a pattern maker, the patterns are relaxed and somewhat rounded. Combined with the aforementioned "rotten khaki,"

"Military that doesn't wage war"

is created.

This phrase was uttered by Amanojak.'s main buyer, Koyama, after the exhibition, and it perfectly encapsulates this series.

While I am well aware that it is a contradictory statement, I believe this expression is the most fitting.

Even if you wear a mods coat with cargo pants, it never feels like real military wear. It's strictly fashion, for daily use, it's

"Military that doesn't wage war."

Please enjoy it.

Next, let's look at the series that graced the first look in the collection,

Hand-shaving series

The greatest strength of this series lies in its patterns and textiles.

First, the patterns for this entire series are drawn by the personal pattern maker of Jil Sander, the founder of the global brand JIL SANDER.

By intentionally entrusting this series to another highly skilled individual, despite his own strengths in both design and pattern making,

Morishita creates a different world view that is domestic yet import-like, adding greater depth and richness to the collection.

That sophisticated pattern is applied to a unique textile created by the artisan's hand.

Based on a blended fabric of 55% wool and 45% cotton,

it is hand-dyed by artisans,

then wax-coated,

and then hand-shaved by artisans to remove the coating.

This creates a unique textile that has the appearance of peach skin but feels rigid.

The chemical transformation between Mr. Morishita's soft, relaxed world and something else entirely,

The rigid beauty of imported goods

Japanese artisan craftsmanship

boasts an unimaginable allure.

Finally,

Hand-dye series

The strength of this series is that it best embodies the brand's essence.

A hard, difficult-to-dye fabric made of 70% polyester and 30% nylon is repeatedly dyed and then brushed by artisans.

By making this fabric a two-layer construction instead of a single layer,

it transforms into a voluminous and expressive fabric that completely lacks the typical stiff feel or sporty atmosphere of synthetic blended textiles.

By combining this with Mr. Morishita's unique soft patterns,

despite being the only series in this collection made with synthetic textiles,

it evokes the wearer's story most profoundly.

Quiet yet powerful, evoking a rich story.

This series can be said to be full of brand originality, showcasing overwhelming craftsmanship utilizing secondary and tertiary processing.

How was it? The "legend" that captivated the world in the early 2000s evolves into a "work in progress."

I truly hope you will get to see, try on, and touch this latest collection.

Also, on the day of the event, designer Kiminori Morishita will be present.

This may be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity
to find your unique piece
while speaking directly with the designer.

Additionally, we will be providing
valuable archived items from the brand,
which are not for sale.

Experience the atmosphere that captivated the world back then,
and see the updated legend of today.

"Clothes that embody memories,
etched by the artisan's hand."

We encourage you to witness and feel
the meaning of these words for yourself.

The entire staff, along with the designer,
sincerely looks forward to your visit.

This weekend, please come to Amanojak. Kitansenju

for an "experience that embodies the past and future."

That's all for now! 👋
