MAHITO MOTOYOSHI

The 26SS pre-order event was very popular, and we're holding it again!

I don't think it needs much explanation, but let me introduce it first.

A rising domestic brand that debuted in the SS 2023 season,

MAHITO MOTOYOSHI

The brand's concept is that all beautiful cultures are created through the interaction of various elements, and while their forms may change, they are all connected. Through clothing, cultures, philosophies, and traditions intertwine, seeking to explore modern ethnic wear.

By incorporating the essence of Eastern "Wafuku" (Japanese clothing), such as fabrics created with traditional techniques, dyeing methods, and historical patterns that have existed in Japan and China since ancient times, into Western "Yofuku" (Western clothing),

The brand has a unique and delicate world view and a strong individuality that makes it difficult to tell which country it is from at first glance.

"Clothing where cultures intersect"

This concept is expressed to the highest degree, which is the brand's strength.

Furthermore, one of its characteristics is a fresh design sensibility that avoids a sense of déjà vu, stemming from the designer's background as a pattern maker for COMME des GARCONS, a world-renowned brand that Japan proudly boasts.

Another notable point is the modern appearance achieved through precise pattern making.

We will also introduce the main topics of this event: 26SS and 26AW.

The season theme for 26SS is

"Unity in Duality"

It was created with the image of conflicting things merging and forming a single entity,

"Dual unity."

The front and back of a coin,

Advantages and disadvantages,

Light and shadow.

A sense of coexistence, despite seemingly different elements.

We aimed to create clothing that encompasses different cultures and forms within a single item, revealing diverse expressions depending on the perspective and how it's worn.

Furthermore, this season, having progressed through several seasons, the brand has once again focused on pattern making, which is its core strength.

Insights and inspirations gained during pattern drafting are incorporated into each garment, extending and shortening patterns, and selecting textiles that enhance the patterns.

Therefore, the natural, beautifully fitting variability can be said to be a characteristic detail of MAHITO MOTOYOSHI for the 26SS season.

We've already received a lot of positive feedback since the launch the other day, and this POP-UP will feature almost all the items from the 26SS season.

Please enjoy.

In contrast, the season theme for 26AW is

"Hollow Nostalgia"

= Hollow Nostalgia

This is the season theme for 26AW, which can be translated as "Hollow Nostalgia."

The 26AW season collection is structured around a balance where contrasting elements—Western and Japanese, modern and classic—coexist naturally.

The inspiration for this is

Japanese architecture from the Meiji and Taisho periods.

Designer Mahito Motoyoshi says:

"The architecture of that time, while embracing modern Western culture and technology, did not merely imitate Western styles. Instead, it sublimated them into a unique Japanese interpretation, stripping away ornamentation and retaining only the essence."

Neo-Baroque, a flamboyant and gorgeous architectural style that re-evaluated and reinterpreted 17th-century Baroque architecture, which was popular in Europe and America in the late 19th century.

Neo-Baroque.

In Japan, the State Guest House, Akasaka Palace, is well-known as an architectural example that authentically incorporates Neo-Baroque style.

Although this style, characterized by symmetrical composition, dramatic ornamentation, and dynamic expressions using many curves, became popular in Japan,

Japanese architecture of the Meiji and Taisho periods, which further re-constructed it as a Japanese style, embodies a quiet strength and pathos within its simplicity.

This season expresses, through clothing, the nostalgia that feels somewhat hollow, gleaned from that appearance.

Focusing on the items, this season, too, features authentic items such as jackets, shirts, denim jackets, and wool pants.

However, the designer, with his pattern-making background, has added a twist to them.

In addition,

Traditional dyeing methods from ancient Japan.

Bold cutting.

Reinterpretation of Euro vintage.

Japanese and Western styles.

Tradition and innovation.

By layering, adding, and re-digesting various elements, the collection has become a unique and "distinctive" one without a sense of déjà vu.

In particular, batik dyeing is a must-see.

This is a very time-consuming dyeing technique that has been passed down for over 1000 years, where melted wax is applied to fabric with a brush, preventing the coated areas from being dyed while the other areas are.

The uneven dyeing and bleeding caused by resist dyeing create a quiet depth unique to batik.

These are items you must see.

In addition, there's a reversible coat inspired by Euro vintage fabrics.

A shirt with gradient dyeing reminiscent of a kimono collar.

Detachable layered pants.

And a jacket featuring bold cutting.

The lineup is a must-see.

How was it?

According to the designer,

"It's even more fun to make clothes.
I feel like it's deepening."

At the recent exhibition, he spoke about the items.

It was a collection born from confidence and joy.

This POP-UP event is an opportunity to physically handle, try on, and experience the 26SS / 26AW collection, imbued with these thoughts and background.

Different cultures meet and quietly merge, then emerge.

The depth of the fabric, the subtlety of the patterns, and the quiet presence when worn—these are things that cannot be fully conveyed through photos or words.

These three days will allow you to experience all of these aspects in the most profound way.

On March 7th (Saturday), designer Masato Honjo himself will be at the store, offering a special opportunity to experience the world of the brand more directly.

Opportunities like this, to experience the current state of a brand that is truly in the midst of evolution, are not common.

We hope you will come to the store and experience its passion and beauty directly.

The staff, along with the designer, sincerely look forward to your visit.

That's all for now. 🙏
